Svaneborg Kardyb

Nikolaj Svaneborg - Wurlitzer, synthesizer

Jonas Kardyb - drums, percussion

This duo consists of Nikolaj Svaneborg (Wurlitzer, Juno, piano) and Jonas Kardyb (drums, percussion). The story goes that they met in Jutland (Northern Denmark) in 2013 and then considered setting up a duo in nightly conversations. Six years passed in which they both did all kinds of musical projects until the plan was implemented and 'Svaneborg Kardyb' was born. They use a mix of Danish folk and Scandinavian jazz from Nils Frahm, Esbjörn Svennson and Jan Johansson's incredible record 'Jazz På Svenska' (recommended for those who don't know it yet).

And soon they won 2 Grammys at the Danish Music Awards Jazz 2019: New artist of the year and Composer of the year. So that went well. They were picked up by Tiny Desk Concerts and Eurosonic Noorderslag and we think that's just the beginning.

What they say themselves:

“We started in the earliest of mornings over the blackest of coffee, sometimes even without talking, just music. Immediately we felt a connection between our personal style of playing and the compositions emerged like out of nowhere. The vibe from these early sessions is still the backbone of our little band”.

“We enjoy the simplicity and focus it gives to the interplay. We come from very different musical backgrounds; Nikolaj from Scandinavian jazz, and Jonas from Roots, blues and folk, so the music is a sum of our personal contributions and doesn’t thrive to be anything else than that. It’s quite unique for us to have this shared musical tongue and friendship”.

‘Over Tage’ is their third album and is published by Gondwana Records that you might know from Mammal Hands, Portico Quartet and GoGo Penguin.
