We actually discovered him by accident via Spotify. The young Danish pianist Rasmus Sørensen. He grew up in a musical family and decided to follow the jazz program of Skurups Folkhögskola in Sweden. At the age of 19 he moved back to Denmark, but a year later he was offered a scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, so he moved to the US. There he was taught by many famous names such as Buster Williams, Phil Markowitz, Stefon Harris, Dayna Stephens, John Riley, Lenny White and Rogerio Boccato. And he has been playing there with people from the New York jazz scene in well-known clubs such as The Jazz Gallery, Smalls Jazz Club, Cafe Bohemia, 55 Bar and Ornithology Jazz Club.

 

For some time now he has been widely recognized for his work as a composer and pianist. He worked in New York with many musicians from different musical worlds, but what caught our attention was the debut album 'Traits' that was released in 2022. Beautiful. Besides Rasmus on piano you can hear Francesco Ciniglio on drums) and Jon Henriksson on bass. A new album is coming and of course we hope that they play the birds of the roof in Junushoff – or however you phrase it…
